Ben Dearnley

Fragments of our Time

After spending 20 years as a musical instrument technician in London, Ben retrained as a sculptor. He first trained with master sculptor Les Sandham and later gained a fine art degree in sculpture at the University of the Arts London, Camberwell, then spent a year in the Italian studios of Tuscany. In the 10 years since making this mid-life transition he has fast gained a reputation for the beauty of his sculptural works.

"My work is ever evolving and draws on my own personal experiences. I have a deep love for the masters of the past - Rodin, Michelangelo and Canova, to name just a few. All these sculptors have one thing in common - they are all involved with the figure and its expressive nature of truth and beauty. It is here that I find the deepest resonance with my own practice, and the joy I find when creating new and dramatic works is simply more fuel to my creative fire."

His work is in The Royal Academy of Music, London, and in private collections around the world. With large public commissions in the cities of Bath and Bristol, and corporate clients such as British Telecomm, Aviva and Bacardi, Ben has gained a reputation for the quality of his work and is a highly committed sculptor who brings his own unique style to this ancient form of art.
