Anne M Smith (Sculptor)

Anne Smith was born and spent her early years in Calverley, West Yorkshire. She qualified as a dental surgeon from Kings College Hospital in London in 1972 and practised for several years in London and then in Ipswich, Suffolk. Anne left the dental profession in 1985 to raise her young family and pursue her life long interest in painting and sculpture. In recent years, Anne has primarily focussed on figurative sculpture and in particular accurate representations of adults, children and animals, capturing their personality and character. She prefers to model from life whenever possible.

Anne's artistic skills as a sculptor are mainly self-taught, though she gained an in-depth knowledge of the technical skills of mould making and casting at Suffolk College. Her first major exhibition was held in Ipswich in 1998 and since then she has been a regular contributor to exhibitions held in Essex, Suffolk, Cambridge and Derbyshire.

Anne has undertaken many private commissions and her work are held in several private collections in the UK. Her commissions have included a bust of an Edwardian Gentleman which is sited at the entrance of a major office complex in Norwich, and a commission undertaken for Sir Terence Matthews of 'Three Children at Play' which is sited in the entrance foyer of the Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales which is one of Britain's leading hotels.

Anne works from her own studio at her Suffolk farmhouse where she lives with her husband and their flock of hebridean sheep.
